The goal of design was to create a new vision for the IOI’s research facilities
in the historical building of the Coolhaven area. IOI, the Institute for Applied Research of Rotterdam University, consists of 6 different departments,
combining the education with research, and ensuring a maximum synergy
between various sectors of expertise.
The main objective was to create flexible working spaces that could adjust
to different users’ needs to divide a space or to emphasize a collaboration between users. The flexibility of bike ropes emphasizes the concept of
temporality inside a building, giving multiple possibilities to organize a single
space in different directions
