Revitalization of Rotterdam’s Communities

Urban Planning

Blaak market, located in the center of Rotterdam, is a place where economic and social benefits are related to each other more than in other commercial institutions.

The main aim of this project was to create a temporary structure that consists of multiple L-shaped parts, steel rods and screws, mimicking market structures.

Markets are our neighbourhood’s orginal civic center.

“ It doesn’t matter whether such use lasts an hour, a day, a month
or ten years; what matters is the idea of temporality”
“ Temporary structure postulates that there is a desire for use by the city’s residents that is, perhaps marginal and only short-term but nonetheless significant and worthy of attention”
