ISO Shed

a low-budget settlement for residents of Rotterdam

A temporary structure with a program of living and working inside the industrial buildings (warehouses and sheds).

Structure

It is a self-manageable unit that is installed and deconstructed in a short time period. Each module is about 6 square meters. The quantity of units depends on the amount of the users and the capacity of warehouses.

Materials

The habitable unit is made of cardboard, that individual pieces are cut out in triangular shapes. Cardboard triangles are connected with each other, creating a dynamic fractal structure for various activities and providing a comfortable domestic spatial interior.

Function

The network of the units aims to create an interior neighborhood of self-motivated and creative people, that will temporarily redesign the appearance of the warehouses. The public spaces such as kitchen, dining, and entertainment area will generate common activities leading to the social consciousness. The prospective outcome is an independent interior community that will regenerate the space with indoor communal spaces, leading to gentrification of Merwe-Vierhavens area.
