1st Floor Women’s Fashion
De Bijenkorf building (1957) in Rotterdam was designed by Marcel Breuer and today it’s protected as a national monument.
The main focus of the renovation was to restore the architectural principles of Marcel Breuer and to create a strong retail identity of the Dutch department store – De Bijenkorf.
The new open and minimalistic layout enhances the customer experience by providing visible retail points and clear main pathways (2400mm). The
layout emphasizes the general middle areas that are surrounded by brand shops on the sides. The “look &feel” of brand stores is unified by the usage of white backwalls with black strips.
The middle fields are mostly consisting of racks and tables with colorful visual merchandising and fitting rooms that are made of unexpected materials such as foam, glass, and leather. The women’s wear department transfer into an exciting space filled with spontaneous materials and vigorous colours to turn the retail experience into the mysterious journey.
